Fruits of seasons past

It's been a VERY long winter here in Michigan, and as April approaches my thoughts turn to Spring. I'm reminded of all the wonderful fruits I froze last year in anticipation of enjoying them throughout the winter months. So, as the trees are thinking about budding, proclaiming a brand-new growing season, my freezer is filled with peaches, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.  I must not be the only one that carefully froze, canned or freeze-dried farm fresh delights only to realize that I hadn't really enjoyed them by the following Spring! Yesterday I grabbed a package of frozen Michigan red haven peaches and frozen red raspberries from the local farm market and looked for a good Fruit Crisp recipe. I pulled out my cute Dutch ovens (only the second time using them) and whipped up these easy individual crisps that baked up bubbly and delicious. Our friend Bob commented how nice to have a dessert that you could actually taste the fruit!  I encourage you to take a peek in your freezers and pantries and create a culinary treat for yourself and those you love. It's not too late to enjoy the Fruits of seasons past!
